They forced themselves to get along, putting on the bury of a happy relationship, a disguise that even fooled Rose and Ted for some time. The one element that was missing to form a successful relationship was h onest love for one another. Similarly, just as Roses mother depended on anticipate to find her son after he was swept out to sea, Rose depended on hope to turn in her marriage, but it was all for nothing. There is no hope. Theres no reason to keep trying (Tan, 516-517). Another element that led to the failure of Rose and Teds relationship was a lack of hope.
